10 Scriptures About Success That All Entrepreneurs Need To Read

Growing up, one thing that I’ve always heard about the Bible is that it has the answers to all life’s questions and problems. You want to know how to deal with conflict with your neighbours? Check the bible. You want to know how to be a good wife? Proverbs 31 has got you. And of course, you want to know to know how to become successful? The Bible has tips for that too.

As Christians sometimes though, we fail to use ur resources, going to the Bible only when we are going through hard times or looking for encouragement. But God is concerned about every part of your life, include your desire to become a business owner or to grow your small business.

Here are 10 scriptures, which are not surprisingly all Proverbs, that the Bible shares that all Entrepreneurs or aspiring business owners need to read and memorize. Right from the mouth of the wisest man to ever live, Solomon, God has given us all the keys to success.

Take a lesson from the ants you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they harbour hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest – then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber. – Proverb 6:6-11

Don’t sleep your life away! If you know anything about ants, you know that they are really hard workers, even able to lift things much heavier than their own body weight. No one has to tell them when to work or how hard, they just do because they know it will be beneficial to them. The Bible wants us to work just like this, hard and with initiative. But sometimes it’s tempting to be lazy. It is tempting to snooze your alarm and say “just one more hour”. It’s tempting to go to bed early even when you haven’t finished the tasks you’ve set to accomplish in that specific day. It’s tempting to go out with friends, even knowing that you may have orders to fulfil, photos to edit for a client or even a word count to meet for your new book.

In essence, it’s tempting to be lazy, to let your work slide in favour of pleasing your wants. But the bible clearly says, a little extra sleep or even folding your hands to rest, taking your eye off the prize, can put you in a place of vulnerability. Because one hour turns into two and two into three until the whole day has passed and you just haven’t gotten any work done. Until you’re out every weekend with your friends spending money when you could be using that time to make money. Don’t leave your dreams vulnerable. Stay “woke” and keep your eyes trained on your goals.

If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honoured. – Proverbs 13:18

Pride comes before the fall. Don’t be too proud to listen to constructive criticism, even negative criticism sometimes. If you bake cakes and one of your customers tells you that a particular cake was too dense or dry, don’t be so quick to defend your skills that you outrightly ignore their claims. Try a new recipe, or cream your butter and sugar a little longer in the next batch to make the cake more fluffy.

Use criticism as a stepping stone to get better. Thinking you’ve got it all figured out and that nobody can tell you anything about your product is a sure way to lose customers and inevitably fail. Be careful that you don’t allow your pride and personal feelings to cloud your business sense.

Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty! – Proverbs 14:23

Put your money where your mouth is!! Too many people who “want” to be successful business owners, only talk about it. They tell everyone about their ideas and and goals but never make any moves toward accomplishing them.

Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success. – Proverbs 15:22

It can be tempting sometimes to try to keep your ideas to yourself, either for fear of people’s reaction, fear that someone may steal your idea, or simply being shy about your plans. But, this isn’t always a good idea. I do believe wholeheartedly that you should protect your dreams with all you have because not everyone who you tell might want to see you succeed, and that’s just the cold hard truth!

However! You don’t know everything and trying to figure things out all on your own might prove more detrimental than anything else. Seek counsel from persons you trust. Seek advice from others who have successfully started a new business from the ground up and are thriving. Seek financial advice if money management is not your strong suit. Get a business minded person to help you with your business plan if you don’t have much knowledge in that field. Of course, you should be cautious with who you ask but that doesn’t mean you don’t ask anyone at all.

Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. – Proverbs 16:3

The Bible says “Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path.” When you give things to God, he has a way of multiplying them. When you have a desire and longing to do something new and you go before God and say to him, “Lord this is what my heart is longing for, show me the way I should go.” God is not going to leave you hanging. He will either completely steer you away from that idea because he knows that it will be to your detriment; or he will open door after door for you and put you in just the right places at just the right times to aid in your success for his Glory.

When you tell him, God this business is yours, use it for your glory and make it your mission to touch to lives of others in whatever way possibly through your business, God will continue to bless it. Commit your business plans and goals and dreams and aspiration to God, give them over to him, and watch him transform your life with them.

Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest. – Proverbs 20:4

Stop wasting time!! You have a dream, you have a vision, a desire to accomplish something that’s been placed on your heart and won’t leave you alone. Everywhere you go, you see this thing, all of your thoughts bring you back to this dream, you end up in conversations surrounding this specific topic. yet still you’re thinking that you don’t have what it takes, or this thing sounds like a lot of work, or you don’t have the knowledge or experience in this field. So what? Get up, do some research, ask questions, even pray!

Stop allowing your dreams to pass you by because you are not taking the initiative to work out how you are going to achieve them. There are too many ideas in the graveyard, please don’t let yours become one of them.

Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. – Proverbs 21:5

My mom always used to say (as she was told by the older generation when she was younger), “shortcuts lead to death”. Now that might seem a little extra, but the point of the matter s that cutting corners and trying to find shortcuts for everything often leads to failure or damaging your reputation. Stop trying to “find a way around” everything. Instead, plan! Plan for eventualities, for possibilities and even mistakes.

Starting a business with a plan(business plan) is a recipe for disaster. Your business plan is supposed to outline where the business is intended to go and how you intend to get it there. You can’t just wing it along the way because when things don’t work out, you’ll have nothing in place to mediate the damage. Can you imagine a carpenter going to build a house without a house plan and telling his men “guys, today we’re going to just wing it”. Nothing good can possibly come of that. As the old saying goes:

If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.

Benjamin Franklin

Despite their desires, the lazy will come to ruin, for their hands refuse to work. – Proverbs 21:25

Just wanting something doesn’t mean you will get it. I know that it’s common no for people to think that “sending energy into the universe” will “manifest” their desires, but life doesn’t work like that. I do believe that we can speak things into being as christians using our faith, but the Bible clearly states that “faith without works is dead” in James 2:26. We have to put our faith to work, by exercising it. That means going out and seeking investment, having faith that God will grant you favour. It means, walking into the building on opening day, having faith that God will send you customers. It means inventing that product, having faith that it will become widely accepted and thus in great demand by many.

You have the walk the walk as much as you talk the talk.

The wise have wealth and luxury but fools spend whatever they get. – Proverbs 21:20

People always think that in order to become wealthy, you have either have a seriously high paying job or be born into wealth. But clearly that isn’t true. The bible say that the wise have wealth. This is because they learn money management. The know the art of saving and how to spend money on needs, leaving wants for periods of excess. However, fools spend whatever they get. These are the people who continuously live above their means, and spend money for the sake of showing off or even just because of a lack of self control when it comes to pleasing their wants.

Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich. – Proverbs 10:4

In order to acquire wealth, you have to be willing to work hard. Too many people are seeking “get rich quick schemes”. But the bible says, these people, the ones who don’t want to work to get rich, the lazy, will become poor. In my country right now, because of the effects of Covid-19, many people are entering pyramid schemes “invest 100, get 800 in returns”. And although it is understandable that many people have been laid off from their jobs, this way of making money is not sustainable, and is also very risky which os why in most other countries, this is illegal.

You have to work hard for what you want. Even rich famous rich people that we all know, like Steve Harvey, speak about the need to put in the hours and work hard to accomplish your goals. As an entrepreneur, all of the work in the initial stages of opening a new business will be on your shoulders and you have to be willing to put in that work. Laziness will get you nowhere.

I truly hope that all of these verses and their significance will inspire and encourage you to really go after that goal or desire that has been burning holes in your heart and to really put your best foot forward.

Hard Work Makes The Dream Work

Proverbs 6:6-11

Take a lesson from the ants, you lazy bones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make then work, they labour all summer, gathering food for the winter. But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

I came across this passage a few days ago while doing my morning devotion and it immediately grabbed my attention. It was like I got slapped in the face by the words, they really resonated with me . So much so that I literally had to pause and reread it a few times just to soak it in.

If you know anything about ants, you know that they work almost year round storing up food and taking it back to their nest. According to different estimates, most ants can carry approximately 10-50 times their body weight. I know it’s hard to believe right, they are so tiny. It’s hard to think that they can lift anything at all, but I know you’ve probably seen it before. Ants carrying leaves, or a piece of bread crumb that’s way bigger than them.

You might wonder how they could possibly do that and the answer is simple, God created them that way. The size of their bodies makes their muscles have a greater cross section which just means that the muscles are thicker than other, bigger animals. God made them that way because he knew they would need to be able to feed themselves and build their homes.

I heard an little anecdote once that I think is so fitting for this post. Sometimes we ask God for things and we are so caught up with how we expect him to answer us that we completely miss the answer. We pray to God that we are hungry and in desperate need of some food and sometime later a neighbour comes by and brings us some flour; then later someone else brings us some oil and a box of salt. And we thank them kindly and go back into our house praying to God for something to eat. Never realizing that God has just provided all the ingredients we need to make some bread to satisfy the hunger.

Sometimes all we need to do to get the results we want is to look around and realize that we have all the raw materials, we just have to work out how to put them together.

You have everything you need inside of you to fulfil the purpose you were called to.

This sometimes is the hard part though, because we are “waiting on God to supply”. And in this waiting period, we sleep, we let ourselves to slumber. Sometimes literally and other times figuratively.

If you know me, you know I love to sleep, Like LOOOOVVVEEEE!!! It’s one of my favourite hobbies, BUT! I had to come to a place where I recognized that in order to be the “head and not the tail” and a “lendr and not a borrower” I have to put in the work. I used to look at people that I know aren’t christians and witness all their successes and see their “big moves” and feel jealous, wondering to myself why I couldn’t be like them even though I had dedicated my life to Christ. I figured it should be my birthright (Rebirth in Christ) to have that kind of success. But then the verse above got to me. I was ultimately folding my hands waiting for success to fall into my lap, but the Bible clearly says that this posture would make it all the more easy for poverty to pounce on me.

That word “pounce” isn’t passive, it’s a very aggressive attack. The Bible says that by the sweat of a man’s brow, shall he eat bread (Genesis 3:19). But I was waiting on the bread to come to me without putting in any work. And we wonder sometimes why Christians are always broke, or always lacking. I think it’s because we are too complacent, too caught up in the belief that God will supply we trick ourselves into thinking that means that we don’t have to do anything but sit around and say “I trust you Jesus”.

Our dreams and goals require actual real work. Nights where sleep take a back seat, and early morning wake up calls to get things done. The popular saying is ‘teamwork makes the dream work” and although that’s true, “hard work” is also also needed for the dream to work.

So whatever you’re going to do, work hard at it. Don’t sit passively by waiting for life to hand you the lemonade! Pick up the lemons God has provided and make your own lemonade. Learn to put your hand to work so that when the accomplishments come you can know that you stewarded well the resources of the Lord.

Learn to manage your time well and to resolve within your heart that you will work at everything within your purpose as if you were working unto the Lord. The world needs more successful christians; more business owners who are also kingdom builders; more people whose success stories will bring glory unto the Lord.

What are you sleeping on today? Are you sleeping on the job? Are you sleeping on that talent the Lord has placed within you to bless millions? Are you sleeping on that business idea that’s suppose to be an avenue of employment for your community? Are you sleeping on that product idea that is suppose to change the world? Are you sleeping on your dreams, goals, visions, purpose?

Well it’s time to wake up and put your “money where your mouth is”! Put pedal to the metal and get to work. It’s now or possibly never. You make the decision.

That’s it for now Chroniclers. Continue to Live Positive!!

Try Something New!

Check out the Resist the Urge Podcast

A few weeks ago I had the awesome opportunity to be a guest of the Resist The Urge Podcast, hosted by my dearest friend. It was the first time I’d ever done anything like that. I mean, she and I often have really meaningful conversations about lots of deep topics but this time it was different. I don’t know if it was just the fact that I knew I was being recorded or the knowledge that lots of people would later listen to what I said, but it was different. It didn’t stop me from doing it though. I tried something new and I have to say I loved it.

Interestingly enough, the topic of the podcast episode that day was also “Try Something New”. Listen to the Episode here!

As most of you know, I’ve recently ventured into some new business avenues. At the beginning of 2020, after hearing a sermon at church, I dubbed this year a year of Decisive Moves! I decided to go after everything that I’ve dreamed about, thought about, been inspired to try, etc. I made the decision, that this year I would work for what I wanted and stop waiting on life to hand me things. I made the decision to Try Something New.

I know you’ve heard the saying, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results” – Albert Einstein. This year what I figured out is that this doesn’t just apply to you doing the same thing expecting different results, but it’s watching others do the same thing and trying to do it just like them expecting something different to happen.

Wisdom is not attained only by your experiences and mistakes, but also by the observation and learning from the experiences and mistakes of others.

I’ve witnessed generations of people, family, friends, neighbours, who have worked hard at the same thing over and over and still poverty consumes their lives and mediocrity is like a dark cloud over their heads. This year I decided that this narrative would not be my story, my legacy.

When I first started this blog, I was so hesitant because I didn’t know anyone else who was doing the same thing. Sure I’ve read and followed other blogs but in my own circle and community, I didn’t know of one person who was even interested in blogging; but I was. At first I as so desperate to fit in and so afraid of criticism and ridicule that I almost didn’t do it. But then I pushed ahead and I tried something new! (Read the full story here.)

I don’t want to live the rest of my life working for “the man”; and I don’t want to live my life from paycheck to paycheck; and I definitely don’t want to live my life working a job the rest of my days that I don’t like. And I don’t think God wants to me either. So, I tried something new!

First I started an Etsy store. I know that to many of you that might not be big deal, but again it was something that no one in my circle or community was doing. I did a lot of research, especially since I live outside the US. Then after all my research was finished, I finally opened Passion Purpose Prints, an etsy digital downloads store where I mainly produce inspirational wall art and beautiful designs of scriptures. At first I didn’t want to tell anyone I had opened it because of fear, but then I did it anyway and you want to know what happened? So many people I know were so interested in my designs and some even wanted to start their own stores and I was able to help them.

Then I started my very own journal line on Amazon! Y’all know I’m all about journaling. I believe it’s one of the greatest ways to get out emotions that feel troublesome or overwhelming (whether that be negative or positive). I’ve also learned that journalling is a great way to see how far you’ve come compared to where you were at another stage in your past. It’s amazing to be able to read your previous journal entries and either realize that the pain that seemed completely consuming at the time has now dulled or disappeared completely, or something you were hoping and praying for has come to pass.

And I’ve recently started a merch store on Redbubble! This one I’m really really excited about because I’ve always wanted to offer my own merch but I didn’t know how to go about it, but now I do!! You should go and check out my Merch Page!

So I’m not telling you all of this to brag, although I am very proud of my accomplishments so far. I do want to show you that you can do anything! Trying something new doesn’t mean automatic failure and even if you do fail the world won’t fall apart. Too many times we’re afraid of stepping out and putting ourselves out there to do something we’ve never done before, afraid of falling or failing, but why not think instead, what if I don’t fail? What if I fly? What if I succeed? What if this thing works out and its great and people love it and it brings me joy?

So try! Sometimes the thing you want to do is meant to touch just one life, to bring a smile to one face, to make someone’s day just a bit brighter than it was before, and that is beautiful! That one life, is worth it. That one smile, is worth it! You deserve to give yourself the chance to see how great you can be. Why does it have to happen for everyone else and not for you? Why does everybody else get a shot at their dreams and you don’t?

Every big thing started in a small place.

Your dreams start with you. One action, one shot, one decision to Try Something New!
